The very first WISE Episode!

The very first episode of WISE –Webcast for International Students- is finally here.

From this week on, you can look for a freshly made episode every Sunday. You can listen to it directly using the player below each episode. However, if you’re like us and listen to your webcasts doing the dishes, or multitasking in any other way you can subscribe the EdCasts network using the feed on the right and listen to us on your mobile device.

To be able to subscribe, you will need a podcast receiver program such as Apple’s iTunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes) or open-source Juice (http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net). Regardless of what program you use to download WISE, we strongly recommend you to subscribe our feed (http://edcasts.libsyn.com/rss) as this would guarantee that our programming will be automatically downloaded to your computer every week.

Our first webcast WISE -Webcast for International Students Everywhere- will be up and running pretty soon!

EdCasts.net is a network of educational webcasts that aim to facilitate the growth of a group of people with a shared interest in education through internet audio programs.

Even though, what we offer on this site are more commonly called “podcasts” we prefer the term “webcasts” over the former as we believe that the name podcast lead many people to think that they will need an iPod and Apple’s proprietary software iTunes to listen to us. We both use iTunes and iPods ourselves, so if that is how you choose to listen to us, that is great. We would like to stress, though, one can use any portable media player along with a receiver program (also known as podcast aggregator) to listen to us. You can download the audio files we make available on your computer, transfer them to a portable media player (an MP3 player) and listen to them at your convenience. In fact, you can also listen to us directly from your computer (either using the Flash player on this site, or by downloading the audio file and playing it on your computer), or you could even burn audio CDs and play them in your car. Even though iTunes and its online store are often used to find and download “podcasts”, there are very good other receiver programs such as Juice (http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/).

As long as you are able to listen to our programs, we do not care about the tools that you are using or whether you prefer to call what we are doing podcasting or webcasting.  We welcome you to EdCasts.net and are looking forward to hearing from you.
